Performance Companies

SYD:B Performance Company consists of young performers who have a solid background in Contemporary dance. The programme exists to provide a platform for aspiring young dancers to learn and practice specialised performance skills and techniques. The academies follow the academic year, with weekly training sessions hosted at Smikle Dance Studio. Work created in these sessions will be developed for performance; we will facilitate regular opportunities to showcase these pieces.

WEEKLY SESSIONS

In collaboration with their peers, teachers and guest choreographers, the Performance Academy students will strengthen their creative muscles through learning taught choreography. Our choreographers and teachers are required to create work specifically to suit the style and abilities of the students in the room; students will oftentimes input their own ideas and bring their individuality to the work. We strive to help the members of our companies, develop their confidence through performance and subsequently in themselves. Students in our Performance Companies are required to attend sessions each weekend which are composed of technique classes and collaborative learning sessions, where students will learn and create choreographic work.

FEES

The fees for autumn term 2022 are £255.

BOYS CO.

5PM-6:30PM - FRIDAY

Boys Co. is a creative Performance company which is formed of boys between the ages of 9 and 15 years old. This performance company was developed to combat the decline in interest from young boys who have the desire to dance, to be creative and to perform. Whilst our Academies and Performance Companies are all open and welcoming of all gender expressions, we understand that there can be a different bond forged between young male dancers, who thrive in such an environment which cultivates confidence and support for one another.

SYD:B SENIOR PERFORMANCE COMPANY

6:30PM-9PM - TUESDAY

The SYD:B Senior Performance Company is right for those who are between 16 and 18 years old and considering a career in dance or the performing arts. They must have a significant knowledge of contemporary dance techniques. Students are required to have experience performing in front of an audience. The performance company will specialise in the performance element of dance, rather than strengthening their physical technique. This company often works with a range of choreographers and teachers for exposure to a range of techniques and styles.

JUNIOR PERFORMANCE COMPANy

6PM-7:30PM - THURSDAY

Our Junior Performance Company students are between the ages of 13 and 15 years old. Many students in our Junior Academy must have attended contemporary dance technique classes or have a significant knowledge of other complimentary dance styles and some experience performing in front of others. We have found this programme to be life-changing for many of our students as many arrive deeply shy and apprehensive. This programme exists to forge confidence and solidarity between the students, as they develop deep friendships and the skills to exhibit their dance abilities.
