Contemporary Dance and Creative Movement Classes for Kids & Young People in Brighton & Hove.
Our Contemporary Dance and Creative Movement classes for Kids & Young People are welcoming, engaging and fun. Through natural movement, games and exercises we nurture curiosity, creativity, confidence and well-being.
No prior dance experience needed. New students with prior experience are placed in faster-paced classes to suit their knowledge and technique level.
Sessions mix free movement and guided play with technique, alignment and strength. Every student's individuality and imagination is always kept in mind.
We're approaching the end of a wonderful year at Smikle Dance Studio, and there's no better time to join us. We'd love to welcome new students and families into our creative community ahead of the Autumn Term, starting September 2026.

CREATIVE MOVEMENT

Friendly and welcoming movement classes for children at Smikle Dance Studio. Sessions explore a mixture of free movement and guided play. A physical and fun way to support your child's curiosity, creativity, confidence and well being.

Ages 5 to 11 years old.
Creative Movement sessions are our ideal for beginners with no formal dance experience.

CONTEMPORARY DANCE

Contemporary dance classes for kids, focusing on technique, alignment, musicality and creative expression. Floor work, centre exercise, and dynamic travelling phrases.

Children aged approximately 7 - 12 (and up), with options for different levels of experience and abilities.

CREATIVE ACADEMIES

A structured weekend programme nurturing creativity, technique, choreography, artistry and confidence. Includes contemporary and creative sessions, choreography and mindfulness (ballet technique /yoga).

Aspiring young movers aged 8 + who are creative, show a talent for the performing arts and are ready to spend a couple of hours a week at the studio being part of a fun group of like minded kids.
Entry is by audition and students must be doing a relevant weekday contemporary dance class.

BALLET / BARRE

We have a fresh and non pressured approach to learning ballet, whilst still focusing on all the amazing benefits of this technique. Classes are about strength, grace, alignment and coordination alongside performance and fun. We focus on the anatomy of ballet and how it can support an individual dancers overall training instead of being grade or syllabus driven.

Ages 7 to 12 years old.
These sessions support are current dancers who are already doing creative dance or contemporary dance.

PERFORMANCE COMPANIES

Longer weekday sessions, training in both contemporary and creative practice. Including a 3-4 day intensive to work with a professional choreographer. (during school holidays).

Our performance companies are for our more experienced and creative dancers who are ready to dedicate more time to dance. Rehearsing performance work and developing their creative practice. Entry by audition.

BOYS CLASSES

A fun energised and nurturing environment where boys can meet , move and play and develop their creativity, technique, choreography, artistry and confidence.
