BATCH
The BATCH programme is a unique pre-vocational, industry-focused, part-time dance training programme, based in Brighton, for aspiring young dancers aged 16 to 18 years old. The programme offers dance training sessions in Contemporary, Ballet and strength and conditioning classes. Alongside their physical training, students have access to consistent guidance in regard to preparing for auditions and future planning; we are proud to have a supportive and knowledgeable team of experts in the field whose own professional careers provide an example for our BATCH pre-vocational students.
There is a lack of access for young, talented people who wish to gain sufficient pre-professional training in order to audition for dance schools, whilst equally balancing their academic studies and achieving their a-levels. The BATCH mission is to fill this gap by providing quality industry-focused ballet, contemporary dance and creative training for 16+ dancers and artists.
We aim to develop and support the next generation of dance artists and creative leaders by connecting them to current industry working professionals during training. Championing best practices by creatively working alongside young people, communities and other organisations to openly explore dance education and placing creative education at the forefront of our mission.
We are proud to present BATCH as a centre of excellence for 16 + combined dance and academic training in the South East of England; through championing a progressive and creative environment where students experience positive, bespoke, artistic and educational training, varied and realistic pathway options, learn essential professional and life skills, and leave with a fully rounded experience of self, well-being and citizenship.
Currently in its third year, BATCH is for committed and dedicated young dancers who demonstrate a genuine talent and potential to pursue a career in dance and the performing arts. Prospective BATCH students must be enrolled within (or about to start) a local sixth form. BATCH studies are aligned with and organised alongside the students academic A Level or BTEC timetables.
Due to the unique set up of BATCH students need to be organised and have the capacity to manage their time expertly. A challenging but encouraging level of maturity and professionalism is expected ; in return, students will experience a uniquely vibrant, fulfilling and rewarding bespoke experience of quality dance training, professional networking, invaluable coaching and artistic opportunities. Students will be assigned professional mentors outside the immediate BATCH faculty and be supported throughout the two years to develop valuable life and professional skills alongside their artistic and dance training.
Our BATCH timetable is shaped and developed around the students individual college timetables. Each student on the programme receives 4 taught classes a week as part of their training, usually two Ballet and two Contemporary sessions.
TESTIMONIAL
SCOUT - BATCH PRE-VOCATIONAL PROGRAMME.
"I can see a massive positive change in myself as a dancer and performer, giving me confidence not to hide in the corner and being introduced to loads of new techniques.
Having had the opportunity to study my A levels as well as being able train at a high level in dance, I am so lucky.
I can see a massive positive change in me as a dancer and performer.
At BATCH I feel so fortunate to have stunning teachers and professional dancers to learn from each week, who treat you like a professional company member and are so approachable and honest about the dance world, training us in advanced ballet which includes pointe work, contemporary dance, where at the minute we’ve been going through Cunningham and Flying Low Technique. We start each day with Pilates which has really helped me focus on my posture, alinement and whole body awareness".
After completing the BATCH programme, Scout is now continuing her dance training at Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance in London.
